I have no idea how many pages or words we wrote here in this 1st year, but they are a lot! The SOP is taking shape and is already a reference tool, linked to by many web sources.  Besides quantity, SOP has much evolved in his paradigm as well: as epitomized by the fact that it has now not only 1 text of reference as it had 1 year ago (the progressive The Nation) but also the libertarian flag Reason, and a generic reference to the best and mystic sources on Faith.

SOCIAL-OCEAN-PEDIA (SOP),  is a radically libertarian collective venture starting today, June 14, 2008. In the current version, items are published in separate static pages in English, with an Italian Abstract.

Exceptions concern:

–  subcrime, fully written both in English and Italian

– Tibet, written in Italian, with an English abstract

ITALIAN ABSTRACT.

Definizione:  Social Ocean (bio) pedia è uno strumento cognitivo, progetto enciclopedico, work-in-progress cooperativo alla KLM  (Kant- Levinas –Mozart): impegnato eticamente e politicamente, in un ambito di pensiero libertario (Smith – Mills; Weil – Arendt; Hayek – Friedman)”.

Vi si aderisce accettando il decalogo: 1) porsi la domanda di Foucault-Esposito: perché la biopolitica degenera in tanatopolitica post-democratica (Iran, Italia)? 2) Georgescu Roegen: la Terra è finita; il BioLibertarismo vuol abbassare l’impronta ecologica globale ad 1.   3) Una bio-società  costruisce le sue libertà sul rispetto sostanziale dei doveri verso gli esseri viventi (Francesco d’Assisi, Simone Weil). 4) Come per l’Illuminismo, un’enciclopedia si scrive per preparare la Rivoluzione. 5) La costruzione dal basso e dall’alto di una Bio-società è lo scopo. 6) I Redattori scrivono ciò che gli pare, e ne discutono coram populo nei Commenti. 7) La questione della liberazione femminile da tetti di vetro e muri d’acciaio (http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2009/06/27/iran_women/ ), è un asse centrale del bio-libertarismo. Insieme con la nuova veste della questione generazionale, e la questione sociale del tardo-capitalismo; il superamento di quest’ultimo (implicato dall’inviluppo di tutte queste Questioni; dalla necessità di nuovi Property Duties\Rights davvero orientati all’innovazine e sua diffusione: vedi punto 9; dall’urgenza di smettere  di “mangiarci il futuro” – vedi Giorgio Ruffolo); e le Questioni Ambientale ed Animale (dietro ad esse: il superamento del principio antropico, un pò la “Questione Copernicana” centrale dei nostri giorni: dove la buona filosofia può e deve illuminare il lavoro degli scienziati). 8) Per Costituzione, i nostri principali riferimenti politico-culturali sono per la giustizia nella libertà The Nation; per la libertà nella giustizia, Reason; inoltre, fonti mistiche e spirituali originali ed autentiche (certo non New Age!). 9) COPYDUTIES and property duties in general, in place of the Monopoly Capital © and  property rights.  10) La Redazione può cambiare il decalogo a piacere.

Personalmente, tra gli AA. che più ci sono cari e cui si ispiriamo (ma altri redattori potranno allungare o modificare la lista), non possiamo non citare (vedi le voci relative del nostro Dizionario di scienze sociali):

definition no.1: SOP, Social Ocean bioPEDIA is a collective and stepwise knowledge tool and encyclopedic project. In an out-fashioned but evergreenà la Kant and Marx, Mozart and Verdi, Morante and Pasolini, Picasso and Kiefer, Hayek and Levinas – morally-politically freely engaged culture: no enslaved or servile culture, thanks!

Although engaged in a precise direction – libertarianism – SOP:

will not be the organ of any party, sect, or body. It will, on the contrary, make an earnest effort to bring to the discussion of political and social questions a really critical spirit, and to wage war upon the vices of violence, exaggeration, and misrepresentation by which so much of the political writing of the day is marred.” (see point 5 below, for unveiling the secret about this quotation).

An engagement not servile to anybody, as was deeply the pro-Russia or China-Communism culture (incl. some Sartre), and fake Peace movements à la Russell: the subordinate companions of Stalinist Russia, l’Enfer du proletariat.

Unengaged art&literature at their best are no less good: from Bach-Gould to Rossini-Callas, Faulkner to Coetzee. They often serve “good causes” even better, with no propaganda  noise.

Let’s leave the aesthetic paradigm free to individual options: BASTA with catholic anathemas (S. WEIL: Lettre à un religieux), communist diktats and islamic fatwas!

E.g., in Apartheid’s ZA, Brink and Coetzee, in the same Literature Dept. after Liberation (until J.M. left for Australia), pursued opposite but peacefully coexistent paradigms. André: the novel pursuing empathy and reader’s identification, along Dostojevskij- Faulkner lines;   J.M.:  in my view and taste, the only one post-modern novel paradigm that really works, in enjoyable novels. He leaves you free, if you like or not to identify, e.g.,  with his Australian animalist writer alterego, the sublime but not so empathic Elizabeth Costello, an expert on Joyce – theme of her first bestseller, if I remember well.

SOCIALOCEAN_PEDIA PROGRAM

SYNTHESIS. 1) Our FAQ is: Why Bio-Politics often goes wrong, into Thanato-politics? 2) Georgescu Roegen: the Earth is bounded; biosocialism targets ecological footprints down to 1. 3) A bio-society is based on the duties toward persons and lives (Francesco d’Assisi, Simone Weil), as foundations of a true freedom. 4) As for Enlightment, the scope of an Encyclopedia is Revolution. 5) Building a cooperative Bio-Society is the mission. 6) The redactors publish freely, and openly discuss issues in Comments. 7) Gender liberation is at the centre of our program: with the Animal, Environmental, Generational and Social issues.

Its cultural program and social references lay IN THIS DECALOGUE (last places empty for suggestions. work in progress).

1) analysis: as a priority,  we must answer IN PRAXIS AND THEORY, Foucault’s question as reworded by Roberto Esposito in Bìos:

Why Bio-Politics, under fascism or post-democracy, often goes wrong, into Thanato-politics, Thanato-economics, etc.?

2) BOUNDED WORLD AXIOM (Georgescu Roegen, bio-economics pioneer). Neither Capitalisms, nor Socialisms can ignore this axiom, otherwise we destroy the Earth: Capitalisms are unsustainable, since their ecological footprint is already beyond 4 times the Earth’s surface. BioSocialism  must restate a <1 rate.

3) credo. We probably believe, on this Earth and UNDER this sky,  in the force of people, their capability to break the chains of their slavery, and build a society where the fulfilling of BASIC DUTIES (Simone Weil: towards the person and the community; Francesco d’Assisi: our living sisters, brothers and the ecosystem) is the foundation of proper, real  freedom – not its mediatic and web 2.0 caricatures.

4) This new encyclopedia project starts from HIC ET NUNC, the current social crisis, in order to:

a) unravel the infinite labyrinth of A2Z items and themes;

b) struggle and unite, in order to subvert capitalisms and restate justice – in the mainstream Marx- Kalecki and Keynes- Minsky tradition; but all this, only for the sake OF NOT LESS BUT MORE FREEDOM (where socialism failed forever: WE CANNOT BE SOCIALISTS ANYMORE).

c)  connect as far as possible these two processes, as Enlightment with Revolution.

5) end. Our purpose is libertarianism, without all thise unnecessary and undesired capitalist ingredients, dear to the socialdemocratic traditions of the Workers Movement. Nonetheless, in a sense anarchist\free -feminist -green post-Socialist Libertarianism implements some (not all) neoclassical ideals, expecially those at odds with Monopoly Capitalisms. For sure, it is not this case for any delegation of social issues to Free Market casinos. As beautifully worded in The Nation DNA:

The Nation will not be the organ of any party, sect, or body. 6) fabio arcangeli is the initial coordinator of the project, but the collective will freely decide to whom to attribute this mere functional task to anybody, along the  project. The coordinator: organizes the site, provides or eventually outsources the basic technology (WordPress supplies it all), regulates the traffic, with no re-editing of texts (Items and Comments) by Redactors (he might ask them, and suggest some revision as anyone else can), while he has full decision on Comments by non-redactors. Redactors are accepted by cooptation, on the basis of their competence (peers evaluation), and acceptance of this decalogue.

All the political and cultural debate of the Project Redactors is PUBLIC: through a net of reciprocal comments, across items. E.g. if two different theses are argued in item Alfa and Beta, or even in two alternative versions of item Gamma (both published, in blog order), the Comments enclosed will carry the ongoing debate, that by its own dynamics will stimuate e rewriting of the items themselves, etc.

When the project will grow, more precise rules of items allocation by competence will be agreed upon, if necessary; otherwise, everything will be left to peers informality.

7) gender. A necessary component of a Libertarian Society: history teaches that, without feminism, you can only build another TanathoSocialism. The gender issue is already constitutive: both of a correct ecological problematic, and of  the postSocialist tradition. The women liberation theme come with the key issues of: Animal and Environmental Question; Generational and Social Question. On all these fronts, the current crisis shoes that Capitalism is compromising our future (Giorgio Ruffolo).

8) LIBERTARIAN POST SOCIALISM: à la  Saint-Simon, Proudhon,  Ricardian Socialists.

George  Orwell, Simone Weil, Nicola CHiaromonte, Albert Camus.

9) for putting History in march again (with no progressivism,  even more Historicism), the key issue is substituting an innovation and diffusion-oriented New Regime of COPYDUTIES, and property duties in general, to the Monopoly Capital © and  property rights.

10) The Redactors Group, with 2\3 votes in case of dissent, can always change this decalogue ad libitum.
